University of Portsmouth alumni and students are invited to the Chancellor’s Dinner on Friday 22 March at Portsmouth Guildhall, 6.45pm - 11pm. The black tie event will be hosted by University Chancellor, Portsmouth alumna and business leader Karen Blackett OBE, who will be joined by three special guests: Tom Ilube CBE; Kanya King CBE and Sir Lenny Henry CBE.
Karen herself is one of the UK’s most prominent business leaders and is committed to creating vibrant cultures, energising teams and consistently delivering business growth and success as UK Country Manager for WPP, the world leader in communication services. Karen was named in British Vogue’s inaugural list of the 25 most influential women working in Britain and was recently appointed the Government’s race equality business champion by Prime Minister Theresa May.
Technology entrepreneur and educational philanthropist Tom Ilube is currently CEO of London-based Crossword Cybersecurity plc. Tom was named Britain’s most influential black person in 2017 and his career has included Goldman Sachs, PwC and the London Stock Exchange.
An internationally renowned entrepreneur, Kanya King is the CEO, founder and visionary of the iconic MOBO platform which has taken urban music from the margins of British popular culture to the heart of the mainstream culture, not just in the UK but around the world.
Lenny Henry has been a comedian since the age of 16. He has risen from being a cult star on children’s television to becoming one of Britain’s best known comedians, as well as a writer and award-winning actor. You may recognise Henry as the face of Comic Relief for which he is proud to be co-founder.
With such an array of talent and experiences, this conversation between Karen and her guests promises to be inspiring and highly entertaining.
You’ll arrive via the red carpet on the impressive Guildhall steps and enjoy a drinks reception before making your way to the Grand Hall for a two course meal with wine and coffee. Between courses hear Karen interview her special guests on stage, and watch the winner of the most inclusive student society be presented with the Chancellor’s Cup.
Tickets are £45 each for University of Portsmouth alumni and £25 for University of Portsmouth students. This price includes a welcome drink and meal with wine and coffee.
Alumni and students are invited to purchase a ticket for one guest who is not an alumnus or student of the University of Portsmouth. Guest tickets are £45 each.
Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
A printed ticket will be sent to guests in February 2019.
Doors will open at 6.45pm. It is expected that the event will end at approximately 11.00pm with the Guildhall bar remaining open until midnight.
The dress code for the event is black tie for gentlemen and formal evening wear for ladies.
