Student in Architecture office

Discover flexible evening, weekday or weekend staff

Find out how to recruit a student for part-time and seasonal work at your organisation

Are you looking for flexible employees to work evenings, weekdays or weekends?

Many of our students choose to work part-time alongside their degrees, bringing the skills they learn from their studies to your organisation. You can advertise part-time or seasonal jobs to our students for free on our online jobs board, My Career.

Once you've registered on My Career, you can advertise jobs across industries including customer service, retail, hospitality, marketing, reception, care and support, sports, youth work and administration. You can advertise multiple jobs whenever you need to recruit a student.

Advertise your job

When you register on My Career, you'll be able to post job ads exclusively to University of Portsmouth students and graduates. When students want to apply, they'll contact you directly through the jobs board.

Please note, we recommend that students work a maximum of 20 hours per week during term time.

Follow these simple steps to begin posting job adverts:

1. Register your organisation

To get started, register your organisation's details on the My Career jobs board.

You'll want to make your organisation description as informative and attractive as possible, as this will help you recruit a student. Your contact details won't be visible to students as they'll be able to contact you directly through the jobs board, in line with our privacy policy.

2. Get your organisation approved

You'll hear back from us as soon as we can review your registration and make sure it meets our terms and conditions. Once your organisation is accepted, you'll receive an email directing you to follow a link to set your account password.

If your password link expires, you can reset your password from My Careers.

3. Post a part-time or seasonal job vacancy

Once you're registered, you can post as many job adverts as you like to our students for free – or you can pay a fee and the jobs board will post your vacancy to multiple university jobs boards.

To make your selection, you'll have 2 tick boxes to choose from:

  1. Post locally - this is the option to advertise your job to University of Portsmouth students and graduates for free
  2. Employer link - selecting this box will advertise your job to more than one university for a fee. This service is run by TargetConnect and the fee covers administration costs that do not go to the University of Portsmouth

For advice on making the most of using our Jobs Board please see our Handy Hints guide.

4. Get your job advert approved

You'll usually get a response from us about your seasonal or part-time job vacancy within 2 working days. If we have queries about the role, the approval time might be extended.

Advertising a part-time job to international or EU, EEA and Swiss students

If you're planning to advertise part-time or seasonal work to international students, you will be required to undertake a right to work check and this will identify if a student has any working restrictions.

EU, EEA and Swiss students commencing their course after 1 January 2021 may also have working restrictions and this will be identified when undertaking your right to work checks. For more information and Government advice, please see checking a job applicant's right to work.
