Centre for European and International Studies Research

Security, Citizenship and Social Justice

We are a group of specialists in the fields of Politics, Sociology, Geography, Education, International Development and Journalism who each respond in our work to competing interests around the institutionalizing of Territory, Authority and Rights. Our regional expertise, which seeks to convey the complex reality of the struggles over the meaning of Security, Citizenship and Rights, occupies a unique nexus between social movements, engaged scholars and policy makers. Our areas of research expertise include: communal violence in Pakistan, the stigma of single parenthood in Mozambique, access to water in Uganda, communicating environment, conservation, public health and human rights in Guinea Bissau, WMD and non-proliferation, political leadership in the UK, the securitisation of international aid and development, marriage migration in China and Taiwan, the problem of cultural diversity in international policy making, and French military and security policy in Africa.
