I joined the University of Portsmouth in 2004 as a Dental Nurse Tutor.  My current role within UPDA is Principal Lecturer (Quality).  I am also course leader for the BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy Programme. Prior to joining the University I have been fortunate to work within a variety of roles in NHS, private and corporate dentistry as a Dental Nurse, Treatment Coordinator, Oral Health Educator and Dental Practice Manager. My background and interest in team based dentistry has been developed from the experience gained within a number of large multi-disciplinary teams taking a collaborative approach to patient care. I qualified as a Dental Nurse in 1990 and began my teaching career as a Lecturer in 1993 within Further Education.

In September 2009 I Completed an MA Learning and Teaching. During my masters programme I completed a project to investigate into the use of the OSCE within DCP education with emphasis on the processes used and the perceptions of students. Methods of assessing clinical skills were also investigated with a view to identifying an appropriate method of assessment to assess a range of clinical skills. My long term goal is to complete an Educational Doctorate.

Teaching Responsibilities

I currently coordinate the BSC (Hons) Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy Level 6 Management and Leadership for DCP Practice Unit.   In addition, my teaching interests are within the Professional/Research Units across L4, 5 and 6. I continue to contribute to the CertHE DN programme team in support of CertHE DN students with both theoretical and clinical teaching.
