Maths Cafe

What is Maths Café?

We provide free help and advice with mathematics and statistics issues to all University of Portsmouth students. Maths Café is designed to support you in developing your maths skills in a friendly and informal environment.

We can help with any maths or maths-related problems that you encounter on your course. We support you in developing and stretching your logical and mathematical thinking. We also provide further information and free resources on a wide range of topics.

What do we do?

Maths Café drop-in sessions run daily throughout term-time and in the lead-up to exams, where we work with students on a one-to-one basis. No appointment is needed, just come along to any of our sessions in either The University Library or Lion Gate Building.

Maths Café tutors enjoy solving mathematical problems and sharing our knowledge and experience. For us, no problem is too trivial and we will always do our best to help you whatever your course of study.

In addition to drop-in sessions, we run workshops on specific topics; we offer games and puzzles which engage mathematical, logical and strategic thinking skills; and we provide information on free online courses and a wide range of helpful educational resources.

I have personally found the Maths Café extremely helpful, especially during the first few months of my course this year.

I have found Maths Café very useful in my studies and believe it has enabled me to not only progress in, but also understand a lot more of the modules covered. It is my opinion that the Maths Café is a tool that when used correctly can underpin my studies and enable me to achieve what I may otherwise have struggled with.
