In the Department of Sport and Exercise Science we offer a range of placement and employability opportunities. We work with the best industry partners to help you sharpen up your CV and take the next step into employment.
Through your personal tutorial sessions you will take part in workshops on study skills and time management to help with assessment preparation, activities to support career development, and signposting to appropriate services for relevant guidance.
Gain work experience in a broad range of course-relevant areas with our placement scheme.
Sandwich Year Work Placement: Either taken between the second and third year of a standard BSc course, or following the final year, the work experience can be in the UK or abroad and should be sourced by you.
Professional Development unit: This is a credit bearing placement unit that takes place in the final year of study and requires 150 hours of work experience. This can be in the UK or abroad and should be sourced by you.
Self-Employment placement: The units are the same as above but include support from the Nest team in Innovation Space to help you to develop your own innovation or enterprise to develop your own placement or incubate your own business before graduating.
MSc Professional Development unit: This credit bearing placement unit takes place as a core unit on the MSc Sports Management and as an optional unit on the MSc Sports Performance and requires 200 hours of experience. You source the work experience which should be relevant to the course of study and within the vicinity of the university or your home.
Five-year study programme: You can be a student with us for five years by studying one of our undergraduate courses followed by a sandwich year and then returning to study for an MSc.
MSc Clinical Exercise Science: The units on the MSc/PgDip/PgCert Clinical Exercise Science contain placements in areas specifically-related to the unit of study. These are arranged for you, and include NHS Hospital Trusts, Community Trusts, charitable organisations and local leisure services in cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, exercise after stroke, exercise after cancer, falls prevention and paediatric exercise science.
