I have worked at the University of Portsmouth since 2005 and I am currently Associate Head for Innovation and Impact as well as the REF coordinator for UoA26. I was awarded my PhD from the University of Southampton in 2007 where my thesis examined fat metabolism and particularly the role of bioactive agents and exercise in optimising fat metabolism. Prior to this I graduated from the MSc in Exercise Physiology at the University of Chichester with a distinction grade. I am a British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences accredited researcher and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching Responsibilities

I teach in the area of Human Applied Exercise Physiology and related subjects on our undergraduate and postgraduate degree pathways. I am the unit coordinator for Physiological Approaches to Training and Assessment (Year 3) and Applied Sports Physiology (MSc). I also supervise a number of postgraduate research students.

My current research interests encompass a range of themes but are primarily related to the role of environmental stressors (heat, cold and hypoxia) in performance, health and disease. I am also involved in providing sports science support service to athletes from a variety of sports and have worked with athletes from recreational level to Olympic champion.
