I joined the University of Portsmouth in October 2001 and currently fulfil the role of Associate Dean (Academic) responsible for assuring the quality and standards of the academic provision within the Faculty of Science. I am also a principal lecturer in sport psychology in the Department of Sport and Exercise Science. Following the completion of my BSc (Hons) Physiology and Sports Science degree at the University of Glasgow, I completed an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of Chichester. My PhD thesis (University of Southampton) examined 'The Impact of Butler and Hardy's (1992) Performance Profiling Technique in Sport'. I am a BPS Chartered and HCPC registered Sport Psychologist and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I am currently involved in teaching sport psychology across all undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I am also actively involved in supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in the area of sport psychology.
My research interests span both education and sport areas. My research focuses on examining the psychology of human performance with particular interest in the impact of psychological skills training on sport performance in addition to healthcare student learning. Furthermore, recent research interests extend to examining the factors that contribute to effective leadership of learning and teaching in higher education.
