United Kingdom Engagement Survey (UKES)

The United Kingdom Engagement Survey (UKES) typically takes place in a student’s first or second year. It explores the amount of time and effort students invest in their studies and how students engage with learning. The latter is closely linked to their level of academic achievement. The University of Portsmouth aims to reflect on student responses and implement changes that will benefit students while they remain at our institution. Used in conjunction with final year NSS feedback staff develop a greater insight into student learning.

UKES includes the following key student experience areas:

  • Higher-order learning
  • Collaborative learning
  • Staff-student interaction
  • Course challenge
  • Reflective and integrative learning
  • Engagement with research and inquiry
  • Student as partners
  • Skills development (hard and soft skills)
  • How students spend time

UKES 2018 launched on the 19th March and closed on the 15th June 2018. On completing the survey, students were entered into a prize draw with the chance of winning one of 20 Amazon Vouchers worth £20. The outcomes of this survey will be available later in the year.
