Annual Athena SWAN Conference

Each year the University Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team organises an Athena SWAN Conference, open to all staff, highlighting our commitment to gender equality and the principles of the Athena SWAN Charter.

These are well-attended events, which feature an exciting and inspirational line-up of external and internal speakers.

While Athena SWAN started as an initiative to advance the careers of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) in May 2015 it was expanded to become an inclusive gender equality scheme and is now relevant to all University staff.

This means that our annual Conference is as relevant to men as women – and we warmly encourage men to attend.

The Conference is held each year between March and May and will be publicised widely through Staff Essentials and the network of Athena SWAN Champions.

Here is some feedback from attendees at our most recent :-

“The speakers are always top class, these are the best feature of the event and why I always attend.”

“All speakers were absolutely great - interesting, engaging and committed!”

“It was my first time at this type of event and I really enjoyed it. I found the guest speakers to all be inspirational in their own ways”

The 2018 Athena SWAN Conference 2018 took place on  Wednesday 9th May 2018.

Our line-up of external and internal speakers included:-
