Chemical & Biological Safety

Here at the University of Portsmouth, a wide variety of projects and research are undertaken. As a result of this, some members of staff could have chemical and biologcal hazards within their work environment. Reducing chemical and biologcal hazards and minimising the associated risks is necessary to safeguard the health of staff and students.

Chemical hazards include:

  • Dust
  • Fibres
  • Gases
  • Vapours
  • Liquids
  • Mists
  • Fume

Biological hazards include:

  • Fungi
  • Mould
  • Bacteria
  • Viruses

Responsible waste disposal is also important to us, so that we may reduce the impact we have on the local environment.
