Learning and Development

Here at the University of Portsmouth, we are committed to providing a programme of good quality leadership, management and staff development to ensure that staff understand their role in delivering University ambitions, and have the skills they need to be fully effective.

The Initial and Continuing Professional Development Policy recognises continuing professional development (CPD) in the widest sense, to include mentoring, self-directed learning, experiential learning, job shadowing, exchanges and conferences in addition to scholarship and course-based learning.

The University of Portsmouth values the importance of providing an effective and timely induction for all new members of staff to ensure they successfully integrate into the University, their department, their team, and to their role. This period is particularly important to ensure that individuals understand what is required of their role, how the role fits with department aims and objectives and what is expected within the first months of starting.

PDR Development

Performance and Development Review(PDR)

We all benefit from taking time out to think about how our work is going and what we are trying to achieve. The PDR offers a chance to discuss your own thoughts and hear another perspective on your contribution to the department and University. Professional, honest conversations enable us to celebrate successes and discuss problems.

Our Learning and Development team work with Faculties and Professional Services to provide advice and guidance relating to Leadership, Management and Staff Development opportunities.
