Summary

Dr Georgios (George) Magkonis joined the University of Portsmouth in January 2018 as Senior Lecturer in Economics. George has a PhD in Economics from the University of Athens. His main research interests focus on monetary economics and applied macroeconometrics examining the linkages between financial markets’ shocks and monetary policy stance. Additionally, George looks into the central bank’s economic and institutional characteristics. He is also working in meta-analysis in every field of economics and finance. Finally, he is also interested in quantitative economic history and cluster-network analysis. He has taught micro and macro-economics, international finance, statistics and applied econometrics as well as distance learning courses. 

Research interests

As applied macroeconomist, my very broad areas of interest lie in the following fields:

  • Applied macroeconometrics (frequentist and Bayesian)
  • Monetary Policy
  • International Finance and Trade
  • Meta-analysis (in every field of economics)

Teaching responsibilities

I have taught a series of modules in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The modules include: Statistics, Applied Econometrics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and International Finance.
