Dr Michael Asteris is a Visiting Fellow in Economics at the University of Portsmouth’s Business school. He has authored numerous publications in maritime transport and defence and has published in a wide range of academic and professional journals. These include the Journal of Transport Economics and Policy, Defence and Peace Economics, The RUSI Journal, Environment and Planning and Economic Affairs. He has presented numerous papers on aspects of maritime economics at conferences held in the UK, Continental Europe, North America and Asia. Michael is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman in the Worshipful Company of Carmen, which has a close association with the Armed Forces. He was President of the Institute of Transport Administration from 2006 to 2009 and of the International Association of Transport Professionals from 2010 to 2014. For many years he has been a contributor to local media on economic and defence related issues.
