Enterprise and Employability

Enterprise and Employability

Within the Faculty of Business and Law, we recognise the importance of connecting students and staff with businesses. Through our collaboration with a multitude of different organisations we ensure our teaching is contemporary and our research activity is relevant and enabling students to develop knowledge and skills that equip them to make a positive difference as employees, future leaders and entrepreneurs.

Students participate in career enhancing activities in the form of live-client projects, volunteering roles, work experience (both in the UK and overseas), networking with experts and alumni (recent graduates) and employability workshops. Our courses are practical and career-focused and provide the opportunity to gain professional accreditation.

Additionally we have a portfolio of activities available for all students to build and develop their enterprise and entrepreneurial abilities.

Placements, Internships and Self-Employed Placements

Alongside the central careers and recruitment service, the Faculty of Business and Law has its own dedicated Placements Office providing a comprehensive service to both students and employers, co-ordinating the advertising and recruitment for placement and internship positions. Entrepreneurial students have the opportunity of conducting their own self-employed placement year supported by the University's enterprise team, NEST.

Entrepreneurship Programmes

We offer a range of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship courses facilitated by academics with experience of the small-to-medium sized enterprises (SME) sector, developed by thought leaders in innovation.

Enterprise and Employability IMPACT week

Each year we run an Enterprise and Employability week devoted to developing skills, confidence and awareness of career opportunities for business and law students. The schedule is packed with workshops, networking, and guest speakers so students learn from alumni, entrepreneurs, employers and professional institutions in order to hone their employability skills.

Global Entrepreneurship Bursaries

We offer generous bursaries for students to study internationally on summer programmes that develop their enterprise skills and start-ups e.g. European Innovation Academy and Balloon Kenya. Returning students act as Enterprise Ambassadors spreading the spirit of entrepreneurship across the faculty.
