Biography

After an English Literature degree at King's College, London, I did a one year postgraduate Journalism course before spending many years reporting and managing content for a number of UK newspaper companies with a variety of roles including crime reporter and head of news. I've worked as a freelance journalist and set up and ran my own public relations consultancy. I joined the University in 2007 as a senior lecturer, before being appointed to lead the journalism team and promoted to Principal Lecturer in Journalism.

Teaching Responsibilities

Principal Lecturer BA Hons Journalism and BA Hons Journalism with Media Studies. Since joining the University in 2007, I’ve taught all types of reporting from social-friendly content to longform articles across news and sports journalism, and video filming and editing. My specialist area is mobile journalism, examining how reporters are creating and delivering content with smartphones and mobile devices - and teaching our students to do the same.

I supervise dissertations and specialist journalism practical projects and am responsible for preparing students for the NCTJ Videojournalism exam.

Research

My main areas of research are the impact of mobile devices and associated emerging and immersive technology on content creation and delivery in all forms of journalism and in HE teaching.
