I joined the University of Portsmouth in 1993. I am Associate Dean (Academic) for the Faculty of Technology and former Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries.

Teaching Responsibilities

I have taught history and theory and supervise PhD theses within areas of art and design, both historical/theoretical and by practice.

Previously, I was involved at the early stages of Art History as a subject within Teacher Education, developing Arts and English education and equality of opportunities projects in the Secondary sector, and teaching historical and critical studies and philosophies of art in practice contexts.

My research interests are in critical interventions in art history; philosophy and aesthetics of modernity; aesthetics and politics in British art history in the late seventies and eighties; the politics of memory as deconstructive critique; ethics, justice and injustice in aesthetic discourse.

Formerly, as Associate Dean of Research for the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, I oversaw all aspects of research and its development in the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI).
