Centre for Strategy and Leadership
Welcome to the Business School's Centre for Strategy and Leadership
The Centre provides a focus for strategy, leadership and change and aims to improve the quality of research and education in these areas. The Centre sets out to make a substantial contribution to our understanding of how organizations can respond effectively to a continuously changing environment, where strategy and leadership are seen as dynamic activities for guiding the development of the organisation.
The Centre brings people together to provide opportunities for exploring interdisciplinary approaches. Our ambition is to be widely recognized for our contribution to knowledge creation, the dissemination of best practice and leading-edge research and pedagogy. This will be done by fostering research, publications and a home for research students in the areas of strategy and leadership and through the provision of high quality Executive Education programmes. The Centre also facilitates the development of collaborations across the University and the wider higher education sector nationally and internationally.
The Centre is led by Professor James McCalman an experienced senior executive and academic with leadership experience in the private, higher education, and charitable sectors. Prior to joining Portsmouth in 2013 James was Chief Executive at the Windsor Leadership Trust.
The centre's current focus is on:
The business school has a large number of Faculty whose research interests are in Strategy, leadership or change. We believe in “constellations of collaboration” - the bringing together of staff to challenge our own assumptions and beliefs, to foster better understanding, and develop more ethical and effective ways of working.
The life-blood of any University is its ability to generate knowledge. Our Ph.D. and DBA students are at the centre of leading-edge research in their own chosen specialisms.
The University of Portsmouth supports world-class research. We are investing in 30 PhD bursaries across the University that underpin our commitment to our research base and the impact our research makes.
