My academic career was preceded by 17 years working in the service sector, gaining varied management multi-site experience. I have comprehensive managerial experience which includes having direct responsibility for and active involvement in, CBT and IT Systems training and development, security and stock logistics, stock audit, the production of training videos (used company-wide), local frontline staff/management recruitment, plus selection, training, development, discipline, grievance full local control of financial and management accounting, regional/area level management conferences, assessment centre management, health and safety, local co-ordination with the Trading Standards and Chamber of Commerce organisations.
During my academic career, teaching interests include the dissemination of various programmes at various local, national and international locations. I have been able to successfully blend previous applied managerial experience with the theoretical necessities of academia thereby enhancing the interest of students.
Current teaching interests are broadly associated with the management of people in organisational settings and particularly as related to Human Resource Management. Teaching duties have also included organizational analysis, strategic human resource management, business research methods, organisational behaviour, and research methods for postgraduate and undergraduate students.
I also have experience serving as Course Leader for both Postgraduate and Undergraduate programmes. I have been actively responsible for the design, validation, implementation, admissions, delivery and evolution of academic programmes which in turn form important components of students’ satisfaction and their acquisition of knowledge.
I have actively and successfully served as Chair, panellist and contributor to course review events, including those with a goal of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) professional accreditation.
I am actively working with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development as an Academic Membership Assessor.
My research and knowledge transfer interests relate mainly to the psychology of managerial behaviour and how this relates to the management of people. My experience is enhanced by my training as a psychometric assessor (BPS level B). Recent interest also includes gaining an enhanced understanding of the social variables affecting Doctoral students’ satisfaction and the completion rates. Such knowledge and experience has in part been disseminated via the following research and knowledge transfer conference participation:
