Margaret Mackay is a Senior Lecturer in the University’s Business School and manages the postgraduate human resources programmes as Course Leader for the UK advanced professional qualification and for the Cayman Islands part-time Masters in HR Management. Margaret lectures at postgraduate level, supervises HRM Masters students, teaches MBA cohorts and pursues research in professional learning.

Margaret has a Masters in HRM, a BA Hons from Durham University and specialist teaching and postgraduate professional qualifications from Kingston University Business School. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Margaret's professional experience includes strategic HR leadership positions with the HSBC Bank in Dubai, and senior consultancy roles with the Office of Personnel Management in Washington, D.C. with a diverse range of clients such as Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Air Force. Before joining Portsmouth Business School, Margaret held management roles with the British Council, the UK's leading organisation for educational opportunities and international relations, in London and on international assignment in Colombia, Peru, Egypt and Spain.

Teaching Responsibilities

Margaret lectures at postgraduate level in strategic human resources, talent management, continuous learning and business skills development. She selects candidates for admission as a postgraduate tutor and mentor in academic studies. 


Research interests include professional identity, reflective skills, leadership development and continuous learning.
