I am a marine biologist (macroalgal taxonomist by training), interested in the effects of climate change on adaptation, acclimatization capacity and physiological response of calcareous marine organisms. I did my PhD at the University of Pisa on the carbon acquisition mechanisms in coralline algae. I have since spent 5 years working on Climate change effects on calcifying organisms at Geomar (Germany) and Bristol University before moving to Portsmouth.

Teaching Responsibilities

I am the unit leader for the course Global change biology in marine system (3rd yr). I also contribute to the teaching of Biodiversity & Evolution (1st yr), Marine and Terrestrial Ecology (1st yr), Marine organisms and ecosystem (2nd yr), Animal science (2nd yr) Marine Ecophysiology (3rd yr) and the MSc. unit Ecotoxicology.

  • Effects of climate change on calcifying organisms
  • Resilience and vulnerability of marginal populations
  • Ecology and physiology of coralline algae
  • Skeletal geochemistry
  • Biomineralization processes
  • Ecosystem shifts
