PGCE MFL Double Diploma
A Double Franco-British Qualification, to be studied at the University of Portsmouth and at l’Université Lille 3
Postgraduate Certificate of Education (+ Qualified Teacher Status) and Master in Science of French Language
There are two pathways of entry to the course:
Applicants to the University Lille 3 M1 DDL-FRU course will have met the following selection criteria:
- Have obtained a degree or 180 European credits
- Have a C1 level according to the CECRL in English
- Have undergone an educational experience in the UK (assistant, tutor etc)
During the M1 year, students will undergo modules on didactics of French as a foreign language and preparatory studies for the PGCE MFL.
Having passed their M1 DDL-FRU and having been accepted onto the PGCE MFL, students will carry out their second year of the Masters programme at the University of Portsmouth.
On the successful completion of the University of Portsmouth PGCE MFL (+ QTS) the students will receive both awards.
Applicants to the PGCE MFL course at the University of Portsmouth can defer their place until the following year. They can be admitted onto the DDL-FRU course at the University Lille 3 provided students have met the following criteria:
- have obtained a British undergraduate degree 2:1 in French or 180 European credits
- have a DELF B2 or the equivalent of
- have met the registration process at the Université Lille 3
Once registered at the University Lille 3, students will follow the M1 student programme preparing them for the PGCE. Once having obtained this diploma, students will progress onto the PGCE MFL course to complete their studies.
Having passed the selection criteria, the Standards for Qualified Teacher Status and assessment criteria for both the Master (DDL: FRU) and the PGCE MFL, the students will be issued with two separate qualifications, one conferred by each university at the end of their programmes of study. The Master (DDL: FRU) will be issued by the Université Lille 3 and the PGCE MFL will be issued by the University of Portsmouth.
Fees are as follows for 2016:
For Pathway 1 students will pay the registration fee at l’Université Lille 3 for both the first (€261,10) and second (€261,10) years and the registration fee at University of Portsmouth for the second year and the year of the PGCE course (£9,000). Students will receive a significant bursary for training to become a teacher in England of either £25,000 or £20,000 depending on degree classification.
For Pathway 2 students will pay the registration fee at the University of Portsmouth for the PGCE MFL (£9,000) and the first (€261,10) and second year (€261,10) registration fee at l’Université Lille 3. Students will receive a significant bursary for training to become a teacher in England of either £25,000 or £20,000 depending on degree classification.
