I am a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Engineering at University of Portsmouth. I served for 25 years in the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer and hold a BSc from the Open University which I gained whilst in the Royal Navy. Since joining the University of Portsmouth I have conducted research in the aerospace and biomedical fields and I'm responsible for managing the Mechanical Behaviour of Materials laboratory.
My expertise in data acquisition and hardware control allows the use of novel testing protocols. This is especially of use in biomedical research where I am particularly interested in the fatigue behaviour of internal prosthetic devices such as hip implants. I have conducted several commercial investigations into the fatigue of advanced aerospace alloys. Also I have acquired data and co-authored several papers in both aerospace and biomedical materials.
I have teaching responsibilities for product design and marine engineering modules where my experience both in research and practical engineering can be used to enhance the student experience.
