I am a qualified Speech and Language therapist and have practiced throughout the Health and Education sectors. I carried out my PhD in Health Psychology, designing and validating an outcome measure and therapy planning tool for children and young people with communication needs. I have experience teaching and leading teams in Higher Education across a variety of areas in Health and Social Care.

As an academic, I have extensive expertise and experience developing and delivering modules and courses across health sciences and have numerous academic teams within the field. Currently I am in the fortunate position to be Head of the School of Health Sciences and Social Work, where I work with colleagues to provide the leadership and management that ensure our students have an excellent experience, our research delivers real world impact and our expertise benefit our communities and wider society.

Teaching Responsibilities

I am currently working with a range of postgraduate research students, supporting their research in paramedicine, allied health and higher inter-professional education and also act as a visiting lecturer at other universities, within the field of evidence based practice and speech and language therapy.

My primary interest and expertise are in the application of mixed method research methodologies to a range of research questions in health and social care. This spans a variety of work from clinical trials in speech and language therapy and questionnaire design and survey, to qualitative investigations within paramedicine and midwifery. I am particularly interested in the epistemological underpinnings of research in my field and the implications this has for recommendations in policy and practice.
