Following a first degree in Biology and some work as a researcher in that field, I have worked in the field of Social Work since the beginning of the 1980s. This has included residential work, field social work, management and training/education both within an agency setting and the university. I have been working with Social Work qualifying students since 1989, and have maintained contact with Practice Education throughout my career and until changes in the post qualifying framework I was course leader for the Practice Teachers Award. I also maintain contact with practice through my work as a Family Fund Adviser. I am undertaking research for a Professional doctorate in Social Work under the title of "What is it like to be a sibling of a child with a disability". I have also had some involvement via BASW in the development of the Winterbourne View concordat.
I am currently level 4 lead for the BSC Social Work. I am the school link for the Inter-professional learning placement in level 5 of the BSc. I am the unit lead for the ‘Social Work theory and context’ unit of the MSc Social Work.
My research interest is within the field of disability. This is currently using photo-elicitation with siblings to gain an understanding of the impacts for them of having a sibling with a disability.
