I graduated from Middlesex University (London) in June 2010 with an MA degree in Health and Social Care. Before I came to the UK for I finished my Masters and Honours (4 years) degree in Sociology from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh. During my Masters degree at Middlesex University I did a dissertation on “The problems of ageing for Bangladeshi families in the London Borough of Croydon” and became very interested about ageing and mental health issues of Bangladeshi families living in London.

In the context of ageing problems for Bangladeshi families, during the years of my MA degree I worked directly with local Bangladeshi communities in the London Borough of Croydon where a small proportion of Bangladeshi people live. In particular, that research demonstrated the problems of Bangladeshi older people living in London and provided evidence of social exclusion, and the ways in which social and cultural factors hampered equal access to, and participation in, social and health care provision.

This has reinforced my interest in my current PhD research project “Understanding dementia among UK Bangladeshi.” The aims of this study are to produce new knowledge and understanding of the attitudes, perceptions, and beliefs of the Bangladeshi community about dementia and increase awareness and understanding of dementia among Bangladeshi communities in the UK.

My research interests are dementia, ethnicity, culture, and religion. I am also interested in qualitative research, writing systematic reviews, evidence summaries, journal articles, university teaching, and lecturing.
