I began my career in the Health Profession in 1999 as a HCSW at a private hospital. I became a student at the University of Portsmouth on the Operating Department Practice (ODP) course which I passed in 2002. Having gained a BSc (Hons) in Perioperative Care in 2006 I moved from the clinical area into education. Originally involved with the development of the Expert Centre in 2006 I moved into the ODP education team in 2010. Gaining an MA Ed I now have units on the ODP course and teach across the school in other areas of expertise. I have also spoken at several national ODP and international conferences focussing on clinical simulation. I am part of the Education and Standards committee for the College of Operating Department Practitioners (CODP). I am enthusiastic and passionate about teaching and enhancing the student’s experience. The use of the latest technologies and its application to patient safety is important to that experience. As part of my role I am an external examiner for another HE establishment.
In 2016 I became the course leader for the Certificate in Higher Education in Paramedic Practice. This course became a great success and now has three cohorts a year. Further to that in 2017 I became the course leader for the BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science. Having developed a level 3 course in the Preparation in Paramedic Practice I then became the programme leader for Paramedicine. We are now launching a level 5 top up for the CERT HE students. I am also a member of the Education Quality Committee and a personal tutor.
