I qualified as a Therapeutic Radiographer in 1995 and in 1997 started working in Medical Physics specialising in Radiotherapy planning. I then spent the next 7 years working in a number of radiotherapy physics departments including the Royal Marsden Hospital London. After completing my MSc and clinical studies I also qualified as a Medical Physicist in 2004.
I am registered as both a Clinical Scientist and Therapeutic Radiographer with the Health and Care Professional Council. Most of my experience and research has been in the implementation and treatment of cancer using complex techniques and have been involved in a number of clinical trials which have directly lead to changes in the treatment of patients receiving radiotherapy.
For a couple of years I lectured as an external lecturer at the University of Portsmouth and became a full time lecturer in February 2005.
My specialised teaching areas are radiation physics and radiotherapy planning. As a registered clinical scientist it is my responsibility to make sure that our students are trained in radiation protection and the legislation surrounding this area before they start the clinical components of the course.
I also have a interest in promoting science at all levels of education and as such am a registered STEM ambassador and the Academic ambassador for the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM).
