Education Outreach

HEFCE and Routes into Languages South

The School of Languages and Area Studies is always interested in reaching out to educational establishments, local and otherwise, with opportunities for language activity. Our aim is to encourage young people to consider languages as a strong and worthwhile long-term career choice. We work closely with the School of Education and Childhood Studies to deliver these activities.

Many of our activities are sponsored by the South Consortium of Routes into Languages. Routes aims to promote increased take-up in learning languages and associated cultures in secondary and higher education, including the learning of a diverse range of languages. In the first instance, any enquiries or requests regarding our outreach activities should be emailed to our Education Liaison and Outreach Team.

Park Building, University of Portsmouth

Year 8 classes from the local area can be adopted by one of our language students. Adopted classes get to follow the activities their students on their year abroad, keeping in touch by email and video throughout Year 9, and are visited in Year 10 by the returning adoptive student for further questions.
