Elena Ward is Senior Lecturer in Italian and Translation. A graduate in English and German from the University of Bologna, Italy, she has a MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Westminster, London and is currently completing a MA in Medieval Studies with the University of Trinity St David ub Wales.

She teaches Italian to undergraduate and postgraduate students at all levels. She also teaches translation to final year undergraduate students and MA students. In the past, she has taught Italian to senior business executives, worked as a freelance translator and had several children's books published. Since 2006, she has been a consultant for the BBC and played a major role in writing and editing new editions of their popular learning books, Buongiorno Italia and Get by in Italian. She has been recently involved in the translation of groundbreaking medical papers on a new ultrasound diagnosis for whiplash injury with the University of Ferrara, in Italy. She is a member of the SIS (Society for Italian Studies) and presented a paper on translation of Old Italian poetry at the 2016 SIS conference in Dublin. She is currently writing her MA dissertation on early medieval monasticism in Italy.
