A Guide to Training and Services offered by the School of Law

A Guide to services offered to businesses, employers and individuals in legal matters

Law is all around us – and more laws are passed every day - affecting businesses and individuals.  You need to be up to date and compliant.  You want to run your business properly and follow best practice.  We can help with that.

Some people, in their professional lives, will have to appear in court.  Some might be expert witnesses, who might be called to prepare a report, then submit to cross examination by the “other side”.  Others might be in traditional court facing roles such as police and law enforcement officers, which include local authority officials, social and health workers etc.  Many of us work – perhaps in a managerial position – and perhaps become involved in Employment Tribunals or Disciplinary Hearings.  Going to court is daunting – even if you have done nothing wrong!!  Even if you don’t actually give evidence, you need to be ready to do so.

But law and legal skills are relevant outside the courtroom too.  How do you conduct a business negotiation or a job interview?  Are you – perhaps inadvertently – exposing yourself to legal risks?  Are you following best practice?

What about you or your staff as an individual in a competitive job market.  Are your qualifications up-to-date?  Could you perhaps add to your CV?  If you are an employer, do you want to invest in your staff?

Our clients include:

  • Sodexo - facilities management services
  • NHS HR departments
  • The Nigerian Judiciary - Employment Courts
  • The Probation Service
  • Social Services - Youth Offending Teams
  • Expert witnesses - expert report and evidence preparation

We have devised and delivered a variety of bespoke courses for busy professionals in business, legal, and local authority sectors. These involve practical exercises incorporating role play and court room experiences, as well as workshops and legal updates. We use video and film, both for simulation and feedback. Users find these courses challenging, but exciting and fulfilling. They also build great team spirit amongst those who take part. This has proved to be a great advantage for firms sending employees from diverse locations.

Our facilities include – as well as our large team of highly experienced legal practice professionals – a full size Court Room, which has also been used by HM Courts Service as a live Court for cases. We also have interview rooms with video links to teaching rooms. Attendees also receive learning packs to support their continual development after the course.

The Portsmouth Law School can provide CPD, and our legal practice professionals are highly experienced in corporate law & governance; employment law; charities law; trading standards; criminal law including bribery & fraud; private client, real estate, and probate law.

What can we do for you?
