Careers and Employability

Getting started

As well as advising on the route to qualification to become a solicitor, barrister or legal executive, the information on this page suggests alternative careers and tells you where to go if you need more guidance. It also gives general advice on preparing CVs and completing application forms - which will be useful whatever career you are considering.

For more information on career planning, work experience opportunities, writing CVs and covering letters, completing application forms, and preparing for interviews, please visit the University's Careers and Employability Service.

All our Law degree programmes are qualifying law degrees. Many of our students go on to train as solicitors, barristers, legal executives and chartered secretaries. Law graduates are also sought after in a range of occupations including: finance and accountancy, industrial and commercial management, personnel and purchasing.

Other possible routes include: paralegal, licensed conveyancer, barristers' clerk and HM Court Service.
