Karen worked for several years as an actor/teacher and freelance writer before converting to law in 2004. During her legal studies Karen was a FRU representative in London, assisting clients to win their social security benefits appeals.  She also won the Lady Oliver Cup for Mooting, judged by Lord Walker of Gestingthorpe. Karen is an active researcher in the fields of medical and criminal law. She joined Portsmouth in 2017 from the University of Buckingham, where she established and taught  medical law modules for both  lawyers and medical students.

Teaching Responsibilities

Karen is currently teaching Medical Law, Business and Employment Law and Equity.


Karen is currently writing her monograph, entitled Intersex, Society & Healthcare Law (based on her PhD) She under a contract with Taylor & Francis, projected date of publication is 2019.
