Title: Multinational Enterprises Replacing the State: The Role of CSR in Unregulated Markets

The main focus of this PhD research is on the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) for Multinational enterprises (MNE’s) operating in unregulated markets towards the achievement of sustainable performance for the company, the environment and the society. Specifically to explore the ‘financial gain vs environmental/ social impact’ dilemma companies face and to identify how this dilemma is dealt with within a decision making process in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework. The research will also focus on what kind of (self-) regulation CSR strategies (MNE’s) are developing in unregulated markets, in terms of environmental protection, social impact, labour rights, and information privacy.
